Final Fantasy XII: What could have been

The Final Fantasy series is oddly numbered. We are up, now, to the fourteenth entry with the fifteenth due out this year. That doesn’t, of course, count the enormous number of spin offs and remakes that the series has garnered over the decades. Final Fantasy X, for example, has been remastered and rereleased for Vita, Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 in addition to its original Playstation 2 release. Everyone has their favourite, though, and mine lies somewhere between Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 12. The latter has something of a troubled history, with staff changes, cast changes and complete re-writes plagueing development.
The original vision remained a strong one, and even the game we have now is excellent with some welcome changes to the Final Fantasy formula, ones that were swiftly dropped for the awful Final Fantasy XIII. Of all the games I am waiting for a remake of (which isn’t many) Final Fantasy XII is a game that I would queue for for my Playstation 4 or Vita. Fingers crossed eh?
